Hello Hot Springs Students and Parents!
I’m excited to join your school and community. As a native South Dakotan, I have had fond memories of the Black Hills from my youth, so I knew the natural beauty that Hot Springs has to offer. However, as an educator, the strategic plan that Mr. Fischer, the board, and the school community developed attracted me to the Hot Springs secondary school.
I will work with this community to develop and to fulfill this strategic plan. While many goals will take several years to develop, I am confident of our success. I have been impressed with the work of many of our teachers and departments. They have shown commitment and have taken the first steps towards change.
As a school leader, I will challenge the Hot Springs community to be better each day. I promise to be transparent with my intentions, and my door is always open to discussions about our community and the choices we make. What I ask of you is to assume best intentions, not only of me but also of all community members. By doing so, we create a culture and climate where each member feels cared for and safe, which in turn promotes learning.
I want our community to have a growth mindset. We should not be afraid to fail, for failing is part of learning. Our journey in the secondary will be one of self-discovery. By understanding ourselves and understanding our interests, we can choose courses, organizations, and extra-curricular activities that help us develop talents and skills, which will help us be successful after graduation.
We want our students to be active participants in their learning. We want them to advocate for their learning needs. As we begin the 2022-2023 school year, I ask our community to come together for the common purpose of living out our school’s strategic plan and providing the best possible learning experience for our students.
I look forward to meeting with you. Go Bison!
