SCHOOL UPDATE APRIL 7, 2020
As you may have heard Governor Noem and cancelled school for the remainder of the year. We intend to continue with our flex learning. We want to thank our parents and students for your patience as we continue to work to provide the best content delivery possible under these extreme circumstances. Thank you to our teachers and staff for all of their hard work and creativity. We will continue to use our website as the major source of communication. We are also considering alternatives for our senior graduation ceremony and will have a plan sometime in April. Stay safe, wash your hands, and practice social distancing. Happy Easter and God Bless!
We will not have to make up schools days but will be held accountable for continuing our on line flex learning intitiatives.
We have been approved for a Grab and Go lunch program that began on March 16th and will continue through the end of the school year. Sack lunches can be picked up at the south elementary school door between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.(M-Th) All students enrolled in the district are welcome to stop and get lunches.
The South Dakota High School Acitivities Association has cancelled all activites for the remainder of the school year.
Update March 18th, 2020
I appreciate everyone’s understanding as we move forward with decision making and the unknown. Like everyone else, this is a very fluid situation that is rapidly changing. As we get the changing information, we make the best decisions based on the information that we have at that time.
As of today, school is closed through March 27th, 2020. We do not know how long the shutdown will last and as of now, Governor Noem is taking a week by week approach. Many states have been more aggressive in the length of closures, with most out at least three to six weeks and Kansas already shut down for the rest of the year.
As far as school days missed, we do not know yet if the state will forgive the days or not, but how we work to educate our students during this time will give us the opportunity to apply for a potential waiver. Therefore, we are doing all we can to educate students while we are not in session on site. We understand this is a difficult process for all involved and appreciate the efforts of our staff and administration.
We are waiting for word from the SD DOE on Smarter Balance testing.
We have been approved for a Grab and Go lunch program that began on March 16th and will continue throughout the closure. Sack lunches can be picked up at the south elementary school door between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.(M-Th) All students enrolled in the district are welcome to stop and get lunches.
All activities are postponed or cancelled through April 5th,2020. There will be no Parent Teacher Conferences on March 18th or March 26th. Teachers may be contacting parents by phone or email. Prom has also been cancelled and we will wait to see what the future brings in regard to our graduation ceremony scheduled for May 16th, 2020.
Regarding school and activities, we are following the CDC guidelines, Health Department recommendations, and guidance from the governor’s office. We want to thank everyone for their patience during this difficult time.
