Free Internet Now Available Through K12 Connect
We want to make you aware of the K-12 Connect program, which provides free internet service to eligible K-12 students in their homes for the 2020-21 school year. As you know, because of COVID-19, we are using distance learning on a regular basis, and we know that some students may struggle because of a lack of internet connectivity.
Your household is eligible for this program if you meet the following requirements:
- Must have at least one student currently enrolled in an accredited South Dakota K-12 school; and
- Must meet the income eligibility guidelines for the free and reduced school lunch program; and
- Must not have internet services in the home as of July 1, 2020
All Students Now Qualify for Free Meals at Hot Springs Schools
Through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (the FFCRA) (P.L. 116-127), the USDA was given funding to allow free meals through the end of the school year.
Beginning November 1st, all students attending the Hot Springs School District Schools will be offered both a free breakfast and a free lunch.
Your student(s) must currently be attending school to be eligible for free breakfast and lunch.
The funds that are currently in your child’s account will roll over to next year. If your student currently has a negative balance for meals purchased prior to November 1st, parents are responsible for this negative balance.
The Hot Springs School District guidelines will remain in place for extra entrées. All students must have appropriate funding in their account prior to be served extras. Students are not allowed to charge extra entrées.
If you have a question, please contact Laura Marchant at email@example.com or 605-745-5766.
Did you know that Hot Springs School District 23-2 has an Attendance Hotline?
In an attempt to help families, we have established an Attendance Hotline for your use if you either anticipate an absence for your student or would like to call her/him in if they are sick.
Please call if your student will be absent.
Elementary School (605) 745-4165
Middle School (605) 745-4143
High School (605) 745-4234
If they are seen by a doctor/physician have them bring the verifying note to the office upon their return. Remember, the MS/HS has been working within the Google Classroom platform and your child should be able to access the majority of their work through this forum.
Letting the school know in advance of an impending absence helps communicate with your student's teachers and provides time for them to get work to your student.
Thank you for helping to communicate with the school on absences. We are all in this together.
Hot Springs Schools at Tier 2 for this week, October 26 - 29th
All Hot Springs Schools will continue on Tier 2 (Face to Face Instruction w/Online Option) for this week, October 26 to the 29th.
South Dakota is continuing to see record numbers of cases. At Hot Springs Schools, we have seen a continuation of cases for our students and staff. Last week the district received notification of 3 student positive cases and 2 positive cases for staff members. Other students and staff are also continuing to be in quarantine due to close contact. The district has continued to manage our current cases and have had to combine some classes and make other alterations. Thankfully many of our staff members in quarantine or even who have tested positive have been able to telework. We thank them for their commitment to or students.
More than ever, please check for symptoms each morning with your children and if you are seeing anything, please error on the side of caution by keeping them home.
School COVID Operating Plans
The South Dakota Department of Health has updated their screening processes and those changes have been made to our "Return to Learn" COVID plan. The updated document dated September 14, 2020 is available here.
We continue to update our "Return To Learn" plans to include ways for you to help us stay safe by including an at home screening checklist. Please screen your child/children daily to help us maintain a safe and healthy environment at school.
The South Dakota Departments of Education and Health continue to partner to provide information and guidance to school districts and parents through webinars and documents. One such recent item is the COVID 19 Definitions paper that provides the most up-to-date symptoms for parents and schools to look for. Students and staff that demonstrate these symptoms will be inspected more thoroughly and may be referred to hospitals and clinics for additional testing. For the most up-to-date information regarding symptoms, visit the SD Dept of Health webpage on symptoms by clicking here.
