Message from Mr. Ringstmeyer:
HSMS Wrestling Informational meeting after school Thursday Oct. 24 in Wrestling Room in Bison Center.
Immediately after, we’ll be hosting a “try-it” night from 4:15-ish until 5.
Please reach out to Mr. Ringstmeyer if you have any questions.

Please join us for an informational and interactive evening of talking about the mental health of our youth. This is an area that has become more and more discussed in the past years. Whether you are a parent, guardian, or a community member that is interested in knowing what supports are available for our youth, this evening is for you.

Message from our outstanding PTA:
Good afternoon! We will be providing dinner for teachers on Monday for conferences and are looking for some help! PTA will be purchasing pizza and salad, but would like parents to bring drinks and sweets. If you are able to help, please follow the link below and sign up. Drop off your items on Monday, October 28th by noon for us to collect. This is an easy way to help that makes a big difference! Let me know if you have any questions.

We finished our first quarter yesterday (Oct. 17), so we wanted to inform our families about the upcoming parent conferences (Middle and High School). We will host conferences in the Tays on Monday, October 28, and Monday, November 4, from 4:30pm-7:30pm both nights. Put those dates in your calendar, and we hope to see you then!

Good luck to our cross country runners competing at Hart Ranch today. We hope to hear results later today.

Parent Night tonight at the home volleyball game. Good luck ladies.

Awesome music this morning for the elem students. Thank you to the Chautauqua Craftsman & Artisans of the Black Hills for bringing A Moving Sound to Hot Springs.

A kind reminder that the schools have a 1:30 dismissal time tomorrow. Tomorrow is the last day of quarter one.

Good morning Hot Springs School Families. This is a survey for our rural families that live more than five miles from school that either do or could take advantage of school bussing. This is a short survey that will help us better understand the needs of our families and consider in the conversation of whether our bus routes are as effective as they can be. There are sections on this survey for individual comments so no need to provide comments on this post. Thank you to those families ahead of time for their input and thoughts.

The Elementary Student Council visited the food pantry this morning. They learned that our community has a resource if needed when it comes to food. They were able to bag up meals that would go out later today. Thank you to Kay Birkholt for taking the time to let our students know about this great service.

It is National School Lunch Program Week. National School Lunch Week (abbreviated as NSLW) is celebrated each year in October. It was created by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to promote the National School Lunch Program (abbreviated as NSLP) and the healthy school meals included in it.
School lunch is very important for children. Students who receive free or reduced-price school lunches are less likely to be food insecure (not knowing where their next meal will come from), have reduced obesity rates, and have better overall health. Research shows that by participating in the NSLP, children are more likely to learn better, because they are no longer hungry. Children who experience hunger in school have lower math scores, lower grades, and are more likely to be hyperactive, absent, and tardy.
The NSLP provides nutrients to children who may otherwise be at risk of not getting enough of nutrients from particular foods or food groups. For example, research shows that low-income students that participate in both the NSLP and the School Breakfast Program have a much better diet than those who do not. Students who participate are consuming more fruits and vegetables as a result of the school meal nutrition standards that are part of the NSLP, requiring schools to serve whole grains, fruits, and vegetables in meals in accordance with the Dietary Guidelines for Americas. A table of the meal pattern required by the NSLP can be found on the USDA website. In addition, it is estimated that just by participating in the NSLP, those who receive free or reduced-price meals experience reduction in obesity rates by 17%!

Parents and Students,
Thursday is the end of the quarter. Double check grades and any missing assignments. Work hard through the quarter and accomplish those academic goals!!!!!

Rep. Trish Ladner reached out to us and shared that the Speaker of the House has requested more applications for the next Session's Page Program. If any high schooler is interested, please talk to Mr. Deming.
