Below is information we received from one of the Cosmetology/Nail/Esthetics/Massage schools in Rapid City:
We are gearing up for a Fall Open House at Paul Mitchell - The School in Rapid City! Open House is scheduled for October 8 from 5:00 – 7:00 (Mountain Time). See attached flyer for details.
During our Open House, everyone will experience fun mini services that are FREE to anyone that comes! This event is open to the public! They are free to bring friends & family with them!
This event gives students the opportunity to learn about the education they will receive when enrolling into one of the four programs that we offer. We offer education in Cosmetology, Nail Technology, Massage Therapy, and Esthetics! They will also get the chance to learn about our school culture, funraising efforts, and community events that we take part in to offer a wide variety of experiences for each student.
One huge career right now is becoming a Medical Esthetician! I always like to share with everyone that if they enroll in the esthetics program which is a 600-hour program, 22 weeks long with perfect attendance, they will be able to start working as an esthetician while they continue their education in nursing. Another factor to remember, if a student earns a bachelor degree and qualifies for Pell Grants with student Financial Aid, once they have a bachelor degree, they will no longer qualify for Pell Grants.
Financially, it can benefit students to complete an undergraduate certificate or undergraduate degree in these instances before pursuing a 4-year degree bachelor program!
During the Open House, they will also have the opportunity to ask questions about financial aid & scholarships!

As if Homecoming week could not get anymore exciting, we heard that our new playground equipment will be getting installed next week. Besides new rubber mulch, border timbers, three ADA accessibility ramps, we are getting three new pieces in the preschool area.
We invite all families to a bullying forum on Wednesday, September 18. We will discuss prevention, policy, and how we can partner with parents. We hope to see you there.

A message from Love and Logic (The World Leader in Practical Resources for Parents and Teachers- An unparalleled solution to build healthy relationships with kids while setting firm, loving limits that turn problem behaviors around)
Technology is a wonderful tool when used appropriately. It is amazing to me that I can use my phone to conference with coworkers and clients from almost anywhere in the world. I am also extremely thankful for the GPS system that guides me turn by turn to where I need to go. Without this high-tech resource, I’d be lost. Technology is awesome and I am a great fan of it.
However, technology can be terrible when misused. There is much evidence suggesting that heavy tech usage, such as with phones, internet, social media, video games, can increase the risk of anxiety, depression, impulsivity, substance abuse, and more. This is an especially worrisome problem with many of our kids today.
Although the basics of parenting remain the same, rapidly evolving technology involving cell phones and the Internet have left many parents wondering what limits are appropriate, how to hold their children accountable for misuse of technology, and how to help kids learn the decision-making skills required to make healthy technology choices when they leave home.
There is good news! Even though these modern issues can be very challenging, we can achieve positive outcomes by applying some age-old parenting truths:
• Kids need limits
• Limits are best set through actions instead of hollow threats
• When kids make poor decisions, they need to experience natural or logical consequences
• Consequences are always more effective when loving empathy is provided first
• Our kids will learn how to live their lives by watching us
Listed below are a few examples of essential limits related to devices and technology:
• You may have your tablet only if there is no arguing when I ask you to shut it off.
• Feel free to have a cell phone when you can pay for the entire cost.
• We allow kids to have their internet-connectable devices only if they check them in with us each night. We’ll return them in the morning only if there are no problems.
• I’ve met plenty of good people who’ve ended up doing bad things on the Internet. That’s why your mom has all my passwords and is free to see my history. You may have this device only if you do the same. Everyone needs someone to hold them accountable.
• I’m shutting my phone off so that I can give you 100% of my attention. Thanks for doing the same.
We’ve recently introduced a new audio resource, Healthy Kids and Families in a Technology-Filled World, designed to support parents in managing their children’s tech usage. This audio features five key principles to help you maintain loving and respectful relationships while preventing unhealthy power struggles and sneaky behavior. These principles will equip you to navigate the complex challenges that technology can bring. Don’t miss out—listen now to start fostering a healthier family dynamic in a tech-driven world.
Thanks for reading!
If this is a benefit, forward it to a friend. Our goal is to help as many families as possible.

Dear parents and guardians of students in grades 6-12,
The Hot Springs School District is utilizing a product called Deledao to provide content filtering on middle school and high school student computers. Deledao’s artificial intelligence technologies analyze text, images, and videos in real time to better keep your children safe while on their school issued computer.
Deledao also offers parents and guardian with tools to do the following outside school hours:
• Weekly web activity report sent via email (you will automatically receive this by simply signing up for the free service).
• View children’s web activity summary.
• Investigate detailed activity logs (see what websites your student is accessing or attempting to access).
• Configure additional at-home policy settings such as blocking specific websites or categories during non-school hours.
• Configure a Down Time policy to block all internet access at times such as bedtime.
• Receive student wellness notifications.
Parents of 6th-12th graders that are interested in this free tool to monitor your child’s computer use on their school issued device should email Mr. Orback at travis.orback@k12.sd.us and share the names of your student(s) in that grade span.
The parent will then receive an invitation email from Deledao (noreply@deledao.com) containing a sign-up URL link. Click the link to complete your account setup for Deledao Parent Portal if you wish to access and utilize the free service. Accepting the invitation is easy. Simply click on the link in the email and follow the instructions on the next following screens. You may wish to add noreply@deledao.com to your address book.
You will have the ability to access the portal through any web browser.
