On December 11th, Johnson O’Malley representatives from the Oglala Sioux Tribe will be here from 9am to 4pm to assist in filling out the Johnson O’Malley registration forms for Native American students grades K-12. They will be in the Indian Education Office in the high school.
You or your student must be an enrolled member of a Tribe. This is not specific to the Sioux Tribe, it can be any Tribe within the U.S. Please bring proof of enrollment.
If you have any questions, please call the Johnson O’Malley office at: 605-867-5977.

Students seem to have a bit more energy today. Bison students know how to "bring the energy" and still work hard in the classrooms.

Good Monday (AND December) morning to our families. Let's make this month a great one. There are not too many school days in this month however it includes the last few weeks of second quarter AND first semester. It is important for our students to keep working towards their goals. Elementary students: hit those targets that are set for you. Middle and High Schoolers: Strive to achieve those grades that you set out to when school started.

Happy Thanksgiving Hot Springs Bison Families.

(For many, Thanksgiving is all about the food! These kids try old Thanksgiving favorites from the last 100 years, like pickled walnuts and oyster shooters. It is most entertaining to watch them try some of these foods!!)

We are sharing this for a film director that reached out to us. It sounds like an amazing opportunity for two of our students. It would be amazing to know two stars!!!! Please direct any questions to Sam Mizrahi-Powell.
From Mr. Mizrahi-Powell: The film is called Daisy Hole and it’s a small independent short film, but with a big impact. The film is surreal folktale about a brother and sister who become lost and separated from their mother in the Great Plains. The story is a personal and honest tale about childhood, motherhood, and life.
We plan to shoot the film this upcoming Spring, when the plains (hopefully) become a little greener. Likely, we will film in the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, but are still scouting other plains and ranches around the area.
We are looking to cast two children for the leading roles in the film. A boy and a girl from about ages 3-8, although, all elementary school kids should feel welcome to apply! The characters in the film are sensitive, anxious people, and so we encourage all types of kids to apply, no matter how quiet or outspoken.
No previous acting experience is necessary. We’re looking for real kids, real people!
Families/kids who are interested or who know someone who might be interested in speaking with us should send an email with a brief description of themselves (and a photo) to daisyholefilm@gmail.com
We plan to submit the finished project to film festivals all across the nation!
My website is sammizrahipowell.com
People can go there to learn a bit more about me and my films (which are available to watch for free there). My film Pursuit Of A Jigsaw was purchased by a production company ALTER, which has millions of subscribers on YouTube, and that film can be seen there as well (although I’d say it’s PG13 and could be a little creepy to younger kids)

This is not your typical classroom experience:
Special thank you to Bart & Mykelsi at Fall River Feedyard for giving a tour to our Hot Springs FFA members today. Students were able to tour facilities, learn about how the animals are processed coming into the feedyard, the technology and equipment used, and the nutrition of the animals.

Happy Thursday to our Bison Families. We are over the midway point of second quarter already. Take time this weekend to discuss with your student(s) how they are doing working towards their academic goals. If you need to discuss anything with our teachers please reach out to them. We want all of our students to reach their goals.

Contest for grades 3-12. It's be great to see a student from South Dakota on the list of winners. Not one from last year. What would be even better would be a student from Hot Springs, South Dakota.
