Beginning Wednesday, October 1, students can apply for admission to all ten of
South Dakota’s public higher-education institutions at no cost during the annual Free Application

Education, this initiative is designed to remove barriers to higher education and encourage more
students to explore opportunities across the state’s public higher education system.
The Free Application Period runs from October 1 to November 30, 2025. During this time, students
can apply online to any of South Dakota’s public colleges and universities without paying an
application fee.
Participating institutions include:
• Black Hills State University
• Dakota State University
• Lake Area Technical College
• Mitchell Technical College*
• Northern State University
• South Dakota Mines
• South Dakota State University
• Southeast Technical College*
• University of South Dakota
• Western Dakota Technical College*
*No application fee year-round.
In addition to the Free Application Period, students are encouraged to complete the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which officially opens on October 1. The FAFSA
determines eligibility for federal financial aid programs, including grants, work-study opportunities,
and loans and is used by many state and institutional scholarship programs. Completing the
FAFSA as early as possible ensures that students have access to the broadest range of financial aid
options available.

The biggest thank you to the Trampus Haskvitz Memorial Foundation for providing our golf team with ten new golf bags.

Please see the information linked here about an anonymous reporting tool that is on your school computer’s desktop, on our district homepage, and now here in this email. This is a way to either ask for help for yourself or a friend. One of the hardest things to do is to ask for help and that is why this program was created: to ask for help. It is our priority to ensure that each and every student and staff member is safe: emotionally, physically, and mentally, however adults are not going to be aware of every event and conversation that is had. This platform gives every one of you the opportunity to report concerns for self-harm, suicidal thoughts, bullying, drug and alcohol use, and safety on the internet/online.

Due to the weather on Monday night, the burning of the H that usually occurs after coronation was cancelled. We will be rescheduling this event to directly after the Homecoming Football game this Friday night. The burning will take place on the practice field behind the stadium. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we deal with Mother Nature. See you all there! Roll Bison!

The Hot Springs School District is organizing its unified team for both Basketball and Track and Field. We are looking for middle or high school students that want to help bring together students of all abilities to compete as teammates. If you are passionate about inclusion and want to be a unified teammate, please contact Dr. Cumbow at kyley.cumbow@k12.sd.us. We would begin practice after October 21.
